Corona Police Department Sexual Assault Crimes - Community Update Press Release 9/23/2009 Sexual Assault Suspect Arrested Corona Police Department detectives have arrested and charged a local resident for a series of sexual assaults that began in May, 2009. Gabriel Simon Delgado, 28 years old, is believed to be responsible for seven separate assaults and has been charged with misdemeanor and felony offenses including: robbery, sexual battery, and assault with a deadly weapon. He is currently being held at the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside on $1,000,000.00 bail. An extraordinary effort was made to coordinate and dedicate resources to saturate the impacted areas to protect our community from further crimes and identify the perpetrator. Over the past five months, these resources included personnel from the Detective Bureau, Patrol Division, FLEX Team, and the Riverside County Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement (SAFE) Task Force. As information became available during the investigation, the Corona Police Department continually updated area residents and the public with crime alerts through news media, safety bulletins on the City's website at
www.discovercorona.com and the City's on-line community newsletter, The Inner Circle, at www.innercirclecorona.com. These on-line communication tools played a key role in identifying the suspect.–Sexual Battery On September 21, 2009, the City's website was updated with a surveillance photo of a possible suspect vehicle related to the most recent assault occurring at the Albertson's shopping center located in the 200 block of West Foothill Parkway. Information from a website viewer led to the identification of the suspect and his vehicle on September 22, 2009. Arrested: Gabriel Simon Delgado unemployed, 28-year old Corona resident Charges: (1) count 211 PC - Robbery (5) counts 243.4(a) PC (1) count 245 PC-Asslt / Deadly Weapon (1) count Misdemeanor 243.4(e)(1) PC Sexual Battery Although an arrest has been made, the Corona Police Department is asking anyone with additional information or those who may have been victimized under similar circumstances, to please come forward by calling Police Dispatch at 736-2334.
